Amazon Books AI Review Detector
Purpose
This Violentmonkey userscript checks Amazon book reviews for phrases suggesting that a book was written or generated using AI.
How It Works
Runs automatically on supported Amazon book and product pages.
Finds the book’s unique Amazon ASIN.
Scans up to 10 pages of recent 1- and 2-star reviews.
Searches both review titles and review text.
Checks for phrases such as:
“AI generated”
“written with AI”
“AI slop”
“AI writing”
“work of AI”
Counts how many scanned reviews contain at least one AI-related phrase.
Prevents the same review from being counted more than once.
Results Banner
The script places a colored banner beneath the book cover.
While Scanning
A yellow banner displays the current page and number of reviews checked.
No AI Mentions Found
A green banner displays:
✅ No AI Flags Found
0 of 40 scanned reviews were flagged (0%)
AI Mentions Found
A red banner displays:
⚠️ AI Usage Mentioned in Reviews
1 of 40 scanned reviews were flagged (2.5%)
This allows you to judge the significance of the reports instead of rejecting a book because of one isolated review.
Important Limitations
The percentage only represents the 1- and 2-star reviews scanned, not every review for the book.
It scans a maximum of 10 review pages.
It detects matching words and phrases; it cannot independently prove that a book uses AI.
Amazon page changes, unavailable review pages, or request errors may prevent a complete scan.
The word “AI” is matched as a standalone term, preventing words such as “said,” “paid,” and “detail” from causing false flags.
