Rewardpoints per Dollar

Shows what your Marriott Bonvoy points are actually worth — right on the search
results page.

Every hotel card gets a small badge with the redemption rate in US cents per
point (c/p)
, so you can tell at a glance whether to book with points or pay
cash. Hover the badge for the full breakdown (cash total, points total, nights,
and the exchange rate used).

Colour guide

Badge Rate Verdict
Gold chip ≥ 0.65 c/p Great value — redeem
Red 0.45 – 0.65 c/p Below what a point is worth
Green ≤ 0.45 c/p Poor value — pay cash

What it gets right

  • Per-stay vs per-night. Marriott quotes award prices per stay but cash
rates per night. Both are normalised before dividing, in any site language.
  • Multi-night stays. Length of stay comes from the search dates, not a
    hardcoded single night.
  • Fifth night free. Award stays of 5+ nights already reflect the free night
in Marriott's per-stay total, so the benefit is counted automatically.
  • Lazy-loaded results. Cards are annotated as they render while you scroll.
  • Live exchange rates. Fetched once and cached for 12 hours, with three
independent providers tried in turn and an offline snapshot as a last resort.

Works on both marriott.com and marriott.com.cn.

Configuration

Edit CONFIG at the top of the script:

gold: 0.65, // at or above this, redeeming is a good deal
green: 0.45, // at or below this, pay cash and keep the points

The defaults are calibrated for mainland China, where cheap cash rates run
against global award pricing and typical redemptions land near 0.50 c/p. If you
book mostly in the US or Europe, raise both toward the published 2026 baselines
of 0.77 – 0.90 c/p (FrequentMiler/Gondola median 0.77, TPG 0.80, WalletHub 0.79).

Set debug: true to log a value distribution for each search to the console.

Notes

  • The cash figure Marriott displays includes taxes and fees, while award stays
generally don't pay them. The comparison therefore leans slightly in favour of
points, which is the right way round for a "what do I save by redeeming"
    question.
  • Rates come from third-party currency APIs; nothing is sent anywhere except the
    rate lookup itself.
